Just One Day is a Colorado-based 501-3c, not-for-profit organization founded by Darin (“DJ”) Williams and a couple of fellow veterans. Having firsthand experience dealing with the transition back into civilian life they felt a strong desire to help other returning soldiers, especially those of the Wounded Transition Battalion, with their transition.
They conceived Just One Day (JOD) as an outdoor adventure company to take soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and guardsmen for a one-day fishing trip to nearby lakes, streams and ponds on public and private land. The idea was created to provide the men and women from Wounded Transition Units (WTU) with an opportunity to get away from their base, post or station, and enjoy a day away from the military hospitals and just relax in the great outdoors.
The success to date of the program has prompted Just One Day to expand its services to our military personnel in several ways. They now conduct trips on open water lakes and streams, as well as ice fishing, on numerous Rocky Mountain Lakes, reservoirs and ponds. Through generous corporate sponsorships and individual donations, these trips are provided at no cost to our injured heroes.
The JOD team now conducts fishing clinics for bait-casting, spinning and fly-fishing techniques to ensure that the troops are well-versed in whatever style of fishing they wish to experience. They teach interested individuals special techniques for the particular species of fish they want to catch. They also allow for plenty of time for their guests to fish in solitude.
They are able to continue providing support due to the generous sponsorship from a variety of organizations and individuals, including;
- Eagle Claw
- USA Flycasters
- Anglers All
- Wyoming Walleye Association
- Bass Pro Jack Winters (Jack is on Pro Staff for Bass Pro Shops Denver Fishing Team)
Donations are used to purchase fishing rods, reels, tackle, T shirts, ball caps, food and other sundry items to support their effort, as well as job skills training.
JOD’s staff is an all volunteer staff and does not charge for its services; they feel honored to be able to say “Thank You” in this way and bring a small bit of fun, outdoor adventure and, hopefully, fond memories to our troops who have given so much and ask so little. Meet the The Just One Day team.
